The old template of female fronted rock bands seemed to have fallen out of favour recently, but The Duke Spirit, together with the excellent Rilo Kiley, could well signal a resurgence.

This five piece from London are fronted by the charismatic Laila Moss, whose vocals are like a cross between P J Harvey, Patti Smith and Karen O with all the scary psychosis that could imply. Drummer Olly Betts grabs hold of the song from the off and the pace never lets up for a minute until it's built up to a frighteningly intense mix of voodoo blues.

With their debut album set to be released later this month, get used to hearing Moss' charismatic vocals - you're soon going to find this band difficult to escape.
