It's really rather sad when a manufactured band splits up, and not because it's the end of an era. It's sad because you know you're about to be subjected to an endless onslaught of desperate has-beens inflicting second rate solo singles on the long-suffering British ear-drums. Think Spice Girls, Take That and Steps. For every Robbie Williams there's been a glut of Mark Owens, Geri Halliwells and Lisa Scott-Lees.

Having seen fellow ex-Blue boy Antony Costa reduced to celebrity reality TV shows and still failing to be the UK entry for Eurovision, poor Duncan really should realise his time may well have passed. His last solo single got to number 35 for pity's sake, and you know you're on shaky ground when the PR bumpf raves about the album reaching number 3 in Taiwan.

The lyrics for this were written by Seal and, as it seems to have been nominated as Love Song of the Week by just about every local radio station in the country, you can be sure it will do better than its predecessor. You can't help feeling sorry for the poor guy, it's not his fault he's stuck in this genre. Unfortunately there's the basic law of supply and demand. Exactly how many of this sort of ballad-based act can the market accommodate?
