Glasgow band The Dykeenies swiftly garnered a glowing reputation on the Scottish live circuit after just playing a few gigs. That reputation has served them well and the band's slick, taut, energetic live shows have earned them a loyal fanbase.
However, to ensure longevity in today's disposable music marketplace, The Dykeenies will be hoping to reach out further afield with their second track release Clean Up Your Eyes. It's familiar 21st-century indie pop, clearly striving for the feelgood anthemic status achieved by The Dykeenies' Britpop godfathers.
Sadly the track is a bit of washout and doesn't do justice to the band's live efforts, which definitely have far more of an edge than this mediocre offering can provide. It'll fit in with the Radio One playlists, but will surely get lost in a wave of similar sounding guitar pop currently flooding the airwaves.
Unfortunately The Dykeenies will have to produce some more memorable and original recorded material if they want to become more than yet another 'The' band churning out forgettable indie pop. A bit of a disappointment all in all.
