As if the north of England had invaded Scotland, The Dykeenies are a Glasgow-based combo whose influences seem to come from 100 miles southeast in Northumbria. Opening track New Ideas embodies the choppy power poppy guitar riffs of The Futureheads. Incredibly catchy, it builds to a right old shoutalong chorus before stopping suddenly, leaving just an echoed fade - like an open invitation to listen again.

Track two, Will It Happen Tonight, fails to reach the radio-friendly heights of the first, but nevertheless provides a solid backing. Think Maximo Park (minus the kiss curl) in one of their cheerier moments.

Time will only tell if there is room for another band in this already crowded arena, but if Dykeenies keep up the good work there's no reason why they shouldn't be up there with the best of them.
