Echoboy - Good On TV (Mute)

UK release date: 29 September 2003

Echoboy - Good On TV
Good On TV is the second single from Echoboy's well-received album Giraffe. Instantly memorable, and lacking the vocal distortion of many of the other album tracks, it's a joyful combination of upbeat electronica, effective guitars and a nice sprinkling of tinkly keyboards.

The chorus is infectious - "All we can do is sit and wait / for the money to accumulate / it's never going to happen to me / because I don't look good on TV". Maybe this is doubly ironic, as the song has been the highlight of recent live shows and if there's any justice in the world should do very well indeed.

B sides on the CD version include the quiet and touching Syd - yet another tribute to the great Syd Barrett, one assumes, though Richard Warren can't have been born when Syd retired hurt - and Soul Defender, a thumping, riotous, sleezy track with hints of very early Roxy Music.
