Editors' debut album The Back Room was one of the best albums of 2005, a dark intense journey through Interpol-like territory which bewitched all who heard it. There were eleven great tracks on it, which makes it all the stranger that their record company Kitchenware seem to believe only three songs can be ever released as singles.
This is the second re-release for Blood, which seems to be being alternated between Munich and Bullets as single choices over and over again for the last 12 months. It's a superb track obviously, with a brilliant spiralling guitar riff from Chris Urbanowicz, some pounding drumming and lyrics that suggest Tom Smith isn't such a happy chappy ("Blood runs through our veins, that's where our similarity ends"). The only problem is that absolutely everyone who adores Editors knows this song incredibly well already, which rather begs the question - why re-release it?
However, for those people who have to have every Editors single twice over, there's a storming cover version of REM's Orange Crush, and Paul Oakenfold turns Camera into a twinkly little laid-back dance gem. All very well of course, but it's time to get back in the studio now lads and write some new material.
