This could be so good. There's a great riff. There are good lyrics. There's a heavy groovy beat. But for some reason new Eighties Matchbox single I Could Be An Angle just doesn't cut it. It's highly overproduced, and any chance of catching on to the aforementioned riff falls flat, because you just can't hear it below all of the distortion and layering.
Thing is, the single's second song is great, and would most probably do better in the charts (not that these guys are necessarily bothered by that, I'm sure). Named Ice Cream, it's a highly digestible scoop of je ne sais quoi, and brings out the band's talent lacking in the single.
Like the title: so close, yet so far.
