As co-founder of the label Definitive Jux and with his work as a producer (most notably on Cannibal Ox's awesome album The Cold Vein) El-Producto (Jaime Meline to the taxman) has already contributed massively to Hip Hop, by keeping it intelligent, dense, and vital.
Flyentology is the first release to be culled from I'll Sleep When You're Dead, the long awaited follow up to 2002's Fantastic Damage. His return to the fray will delight many Hip-Hop fans worldwide, but it's the list of guest performers on the album that will attract the attention of many and force El-P into the mainstream consciousness. In the case of this single, it is the presence of Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor that will bring many new fans to El-P.
Once they're up to speed with the rest of us, they may initially be disappointed with Reznor's contribution; to say he's underused would be an understatement. But then music should never really be about guest stars, and the sheer muscle of Flyentology will soon ease any disappointment. Industrial beats rumble, as a thunderous bass pushes a multilayered apocalyptic soundscape towards its final moments. Intense is perhaps an overused term when describing music, but in this case it's entirely justified. He makes The Bomb Squad sound like a bunch of chancers. These beats could crush your skull if you're not careful with that volume knob. Welcome back El-P.
