In a world where mediocre, bog-standard indie like One Night Only, The Courteeners or Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong can sell records, it's a crying shame that Elbow still remain rock's nearly men.
One Day Like This is Elbow's big 'anthem' moment from the recent wonderful album The Seldom Seen Kid. It builds up beautifully, with strings swirling and a choir at the end, as Guy Garvey celebrates a perfect day with his beloved using lines such as "Holy cow, I love your eyes" and "kiss me like your final meal".
It's all marvellously uplifting and you may well hear it in one of those montages that the BBC like to use during their football highlights. That would be diminishing the song slightly though - this is something rather life-affirming.
