Elbow's Mercury Music Prize win has crowned a year in which the quiet band from Bury have started to crop up everywhere, and new single The Bones of You seems destined for a place on the soundtrack for autumn.
The second track from The Seldom Seen Kid, vocalist Guy Garvey sets our scene in May. A wistful narrative of dealing with the incessant humdrum of life over a gently thrumming acoustic guitar, Guy's sudden remembrance of a lost love transports us far from whatever the current season is - he is "five years ago and three thousand miles away", enveloped by the memory.
This emotive crescendo is joined by a rumbling bassline and full choir, lifting a simple, melodious song up into the stratosphere of the anthemic. The last chorus fades in the air as a lazy saxophone plays with Gershwin's Summertime. We are back in the present, not May, not summertime - but warmer, nonetheless.
