Iceland has produced some excellent musicians: the pixie-like Björk, unearthly Múm and magical Sigur Rós. Add to that list Emiliana Torrini - a singer/songwriter who deserves a much, much larger fanbase.

You might not recognize the name, but if you saw Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, you’ll have heard her. The distinctive ethereal vocal on Gollum’s Song’ which ran over the credits belongs to Ms. Torrini.

Me and Armini is the first single off her upcoming studio album of the same name. Chilled-out, catchy and upbeat, it oozes summer. With a Kate Bush style lilt and relaxed reggae electronica arrangement, this really is a special and unique track. Torrini deserves to surpass current female singer/songwriters such as Duffy and Adele. Here’s hoping.
