The Enemy sound so much like a lost punk blast from the past it's as if somewhere between pressing play on the CD player and sitting down to listen to It's Not Okay, there's been a black hole and a timewarp to 1977 involved. They're even on Stiff Records, for God's sake!
This is a raw, spiky, punky, Graham Coxon-ish shouty pop of a record that might be about a protest of some kind (judging by the cover) or might be about dissatisfaction with life, the universe and everything (judging by the lyrics) but certainly sounds like something that will hold up well as an opener to Kasabian, who they're supporting later this month. They're a damn sight better than The Paddingtons, who they've been on tour with through the tail end of last year - I'll tell you that for nothing.
The Enemy were Coventry & Warwickshire Band Of the Month in July 2005, you know, and in their own words, "It's about Cov." Please can they marry The Hedrons and have their babies?
