The Enemy - We'll Live And Die In These Towns (Warners)
UK release date: 3 December 2007
Although We'll Live And Die In These Towns is the most anthemic song from their September album of the same name, in it they come over less like angry young men than slightly sulky ones.
Someone's clearly been listening to The Jam, and while there's a big stripe of Kitchen Sink drama running through the song, with its mentions of dirty dishes and smashed up windows, the delivery lacks the sharpness, the spunk and the sheer nastiness of Weller at his best.
The music is lively, with a strong pop beat, although it's a little distracting in its cheeriness, and somewhat overwhelms lead singer Tom Clarke's flat-toned vocals, which are not helped by his indistinct diction - there's no point protesting if no one can work out what you're saying. Mildly angry, mildly uplifting, mildly interesting.
