Even on a first listen these guys come across as quite polished and musical, a little Nirvana-ish but more tuneful and energetic. The drumming is tight, the guitar work is light and buoyant and overall the sound is attractive and well-modulated: thrashy but not too in your face and noisy. They cite their influences as Nirvana, Metallica and Sepultura.
Although initially engaging, further analysis reveals little beneath the neat and shiny surface. A journey into the lyrics leaves one with the feeling of being conned, the lines are so banal and meaningless. Unfortunately you don’t really need the sleeve notes to work out what is being sung, though for some reason they are included inside the cover (perhaps to alleviate the feeling of deception).
Engerica may be a good band in a few years, when they have been stripped of their naivety and self importance and have actually found something interesting to say, but until then they are just English mutton dressed as American lamb.
