Taking in Envelopes a few weeks ago in an otherwise commercial environment was a little like a religious experience, their Essence of Modern Indie look distinguishing them in the crowd of High Street dressers before they took to the stage and slayed me like a wild animal.
It's a wild edge that runs through their early output like a trail of fire, and one that continues running through Life on the Beach in fine style. Starting with stacatto drum squelches the record sprawls out into an insanely rhythmic nugget of immaculately convoluted lyricism that twists into the unlikeliest melodies and makes you reel like smoke in the desert.
Envelopes are one of the host of new Swedish bands making music that shows up mainstream indie as the big fat joke that it is. Join their gang and breath their fire.
