"If there's a party, can I come?" So goes the refrain to this unusual little ditty by Envelopes. One thing's for sure, if Envelopes are having a party you probably don't want to go. On this evidence it'd probably be fun to start with before ending in a mass of confusion and chaos. Maybe that's the kind of party you like, but frankly I've been to far to many of those kinds of dos.
This is indie pop with a slightly sinister edge; you'll find yourself thinking back to the best moments of Pixies and Throwing Muses. Which is better than thinking about Bonnie Tyler, whose Total Eclipse of The Heart is referenced here only with more expletives. Perhaps more impressively, Party doesn't follow your usual verse/chorus guidelines - instead it progresses in more linear fashion getting more aggressive as it goes on.
This is the kind of party that would have a brooding loner in the kitchen cradling a bottle of cheapo vodka that nobody seems to know. Ultimately the sense of menace lurking just beneath the surface ready to explode always makes for the most memorable parties.
