The second single from Nightbird is more of an uptempo affair than predecessor Breathe. It became the 30th top 40 hit for Vince Clarke and Andy Bell's partnership in 21 years - so the duo don't need to prove anything with this latest release.

But Don't Say You Love Me has all the classic Erasure ingredients - a melodic, singalong chorus, Andy Bell's impressive vocal range, all manner of synth noises and a structure formed of guitar chords. Like the rest of Nightbird, there's a tinge of sadness and regret underlying the pop sensibility that gives it that little extra depth.

Dead cert for top 40 hit number 31.
