Vince Clarke and Andy Bell, together Erasure. Stalwarts of '80s electropop. They've been beneath the pop radar for a few years now, so how lovely to have them back, dahlings. But... with a cover version of a Peter Gabriel song? Why? Are we safe nowhere from the tyranny of karaoke pop?

Oh well, at least it's fun. Solsbury Hill is the song that gets the beeps-and-bloops treatment - and Erasure certainly make it their own. Bell's vocals still sound as distinctive as at any time since 1984's Sometimes, and Clarke's techno-wizz-bangery has his name writ large all over it.

It's of course not the first time Erasure have gone down Covers Road - their only number one song was down to Abba after all - but, of all the karaoke pop out there, this one's at least... Erasure-like. Let's hope it gets them noticed again in time for an album of new material to bring them back to the big time.
