Estelle - Wait A Minute (Just A Touch) (Homeschool)
UK release date: 19 November 2007
Girls, you've heard the message a million times over. Don't rush into the bedroom with any guy who shows you a bit of interest. Fine to keep him interested, offer him just a touch, but if he wants it to be special, he'll wait.
If the idea for this song isn't that original or inspiring, West London's Estelle Swaray gets away with it by crafting a rather neat little hip hop number out of slick RnB beats, squelchy synthesizers, rap and fluted vocals. Building up slowly from humble beginnings, the song rapidly becomes an eminently danceable number with Estelle showing off her talents as both an MC and a singer. She scores extra points for the line "if and when the time comes, wrap it up 'cause I ain't carrying your embryo".
This record will have young women and men gyrating tantalisingly on dancefloors across the land. I just hope they heed the message but fear the track may contribute to more one-night stands than it prevents. If Estelle's forthcoming second album, her first for John Legend's Homeschool Records, features a few more tracks like this, it should be worth waiting for.
