It's easy to be clichéd but it's true when people say that the implications of John Peel's untimely death will have more than far reaching implications on the new music scene. Everyone's favourite cool dad has left a void in music and twelve months on the tributes continue. Now we can add this charity cover of the Buzzcock's 1978 hit to the list. Proceeds go to Amnesty International, one of Peel's favourite charities.

As you'd expect, the line up here is tremendous, including a swaggering verse from Roger Daltrey. There's also Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour, Robert Plant, and a mercifully unidentifiable Elton John (the words "Elton", "John" and "Charity Single" immediately send chills down the spine). As far as the new music scene goes there are The Datsuns and The Futureheads making valuable contributions, and the artwork is by Bloc Party's Gordon Moakes. The Buzzcocks' own Pete Shelley also gives this a stamp of approval with his involvement.

A good job is done here but the highlight remains the classic original, which is included as a B-side. This a worthy purchase that surely beats the crap out of most other charity singles - especially since at this time of the year we're nearing the inevitably shite boy-band-Children-in-Need-horror. If you're a music fan worth you're salt you'll already have this track, so it's hardly an essential purchase. But if your heart is in the right place you can at least get a few teenage kicks from the line up on offer.
