Not to be confused with emo-lite chumps du jour Fall Out Boy, The Fallout Trust offer something entirely different - and quite a lot better - than their nearly namesakes. Washout precedes the English sextet's debut album release In Case Of The Flood by two weeks, and even if this appetiser isn't entirely mouth-watering, it is most intriguing.
Fans of Razorlight and The Libertines will feel right at home in the cheerful 'knees up mother brown' intro of bouncing guitar. Then, just as you expect Johnny Borrell to start singing, the track suddenly becomes fresher, brighter and not dissimilar to the scally-pop of The Coral. While its parts might not be astoundingly original, I am pleased to say the whole is still rather good.
But if such musical meanderings aren't enough to catch the ear, then there's a curiously sing-along chorus about fact being fiction and babies being born face down. Crikey, you say. And indeed you are right to do so; this is a clear cut case of musical schizophrenia. What will they do on the album? I wait with bated breath.
