Faultline feat The Flaming Lips - The Colossal Grey Sunshine (Tiny Consumer/EMI)
UK release date: 25 October 2004
Faultline featuring The Flaming Lips - The Colossal Grey Sunshine
Faultline is essentially one guy, David Kosten, purveyor of a particularly melancholic brand of electronica. The Colossal Gray Sunshine sees him enlist the talents of The Flaming Lips to produce a track that sounds...well, a lot like the Flaming Lips.

And this is no bad thing. Wayne Coyne's distinctive vocals drift across a birdsong of synth sounds and gentle guitars. "You're turning off the sun," he opines, "by turning off your love." Remixed by Kosten, this collaborative track gets off to a good start, with a delicately pretty intro, and what follows is equally sweet, the song really feels like it's going somewhere special.

Except that it doesn't - just as it appears about to pick up, to build to some beautiful finish the track just stops, coming abruptly to a close, leaving you wondering where it went. Colossal could have soared but as it lasts barely 3 minutes this is just not the case.
