Dan Gillespie-Sells is homesick. That's what the front man for the London-based, soft pop/rock quintet The Feeling claims, anyway, on Without You, the latest offering from the group's hit album Join With Us.
Using the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech, which occurred a year ago while the band was touring in the school's state, as a backdrop, longing for England and a faraway love is expressed. True to form, the band disappointingly expresses their state of mind with yet another slice of sweet pop monotony.
How genuine are the sentiments, though? As they "wonder what the time is in London," the group is preparing for a series of gigs with New Jersey rockers Bon Jovi. Furthermore, the melody of the chorus very closely resembles that of New York native Lenny Kravitz's It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over. These examples of the group's espousal of American music seem to contradict the central message of the song.
So are they longing for home or not? It's a bit of a conundrum, really. Conveniently, the droning, elevator-worthy vibe persistent throughout the track provides ample time to consider it.
