Fefe Dobson - Everything (Def Jam)

UK release date: 26 April 2004
Fefe Dobson - Everything
Ah, you may say, just what the pop world is waiting for is a young female Canadian singer-song(co)writer with attitude... But wait a minute, don't we already have Avril Lavigne? Well, hot on Ms Lavigne's heels comes Fefe Dobson.

Everything is in the classic pop song mode, with guitars, lively drums and a sing-along chorus, interspersed with quieter verses to provide contrast. The lyrics start off well ("sometimes I give in to sadness, sometimes I don't, sometimes I'm part of the madness") but tend to fade off into "doo doo de doo", which is disappointing. Fefe has a good voice, and at times it brings to mind her contempories Avril or Stacie Orrico, but at times almost Dolores Riordan from The Cranberries (okay, she's not quite that good).

Notwithstanding the weak lyrics, this is a reasonable effort and Fefe Dobson is worth keeping an eye out for.
