Where most American hip-hoppers seem to come from either New York, Los Angeles or Detroit, Field Mob buck the trend by coming from the state more famous for producing R.E.M. The Albany, Georgia duo are signed to Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace record label and So What makes a nice break from the aggressive rapping beloved of some of their peers.

A mellow groove hooks the listener straight away, with some gorgeously wistful vocals from the new 'Queen of Crunk', Ciara. Then the duo themselves come in, swapping lightning fast raps and sounding incredibly like fellow Geordia residents OutKast. The lyrics aren't particularly inspiring (Ciara waits at home for her 'bad boy thug' boyfriend refusing to believe the nasty things people say about him), but the production is so silky smooth that it doesn't matter a jot.

It's perfect summertime listening, which may all be forgetten in a few weeks, but works perfectly well for now. If you really can't wait for the forthcoming OutKast album, then this should tide you over nicely.
