While Sunderland football club have not exactly enjoyed the greatest time of late, there is something which is sure to raise the Mackems' spirits - the uplifting pop of the hugely talented Field Music. Maybe Mick McCarthy might have even raised a smile and been caught tapping an unruly foot if he'd of heard this local band while he was manager, or at least it would have made his Saturday nights a bit more bearable.

After their sunny self-titled debut album of last year, a release bursting with singable inventive pop tunes, this new single continues where they left off. The band's core members are brothers Peter and David Brewis and the duo certainly have the knack of writing an infectious song.

After some festive humming at the start, which sounds suspiciously like Come All Ye Faithful, driving drums lead us away from Christmas carols and into a very Beatles-esque number. At only two and a half minutes long it is living proof that the pop song is alive and well. This lot have recently visited America for the first time and can be caught supporting Stereolab over here in May.
