If your cynicism kicks into overdrive the minute you hear the words 'the new Arcade Fire' then switch it off for the moment. For Fields do bear undeniable musical comparisons to last year's Canadian word of mouth sensations. What's more, they're good. Really bloody good.

Song For The Fields is, rather astonishingly, the band's debut single. It's astonishing because it's shot through with a confidence and sense of purpose that bands twice as old would kill for. It's got a quiet, folky intro which slow burns gorgeously until the drums eventually kick in, and an insistent chorus of "you're not the only one" rattles around your brain. Gorgeous harmonies and a dark yet commercial pop sensibility all combine to make this one of the best singles of the year so far.

With support slots with the likes of Snow Patrol lined up, Fields are set to become of the hippest names to drop this year. Buy this now before everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
