Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. With this in mind, was it a coincidence that the last time The Police turned up on a sample (the tribute single for Notorious BIG), the hip hop community suddenly decided that Phil Collins was cool? Or was there darker stirrings afoot? Here we are back with The Police and a bootleg smash that has the underground dance scene frothing at the nostrils, and God only knows what's going to happen next. Black Metal takes a liking to Roger Whittaker?

Most of the mixes here show little in the way of inspiration. Merely removing Stuart Copeland's drums, and adding a stock Europop beat in the hope that no one will really notice that they've done little with the track at all.

Sander Van Doorn's remix stands out above the others available on this disc (it was his version that caused free for alls at the bootleg counters) and perhaps the secret is this - there's not very much Message In A Bottle present. Sure, Sting pops out to warble a few notes here and there, but the emphasis as always with dance tracks is on a drum pattern that builds you into a wild eyed club frenzy. Not much good in your living room, but fine down the club where you will be hearing this continuously for the next few months. If after hearing this you suddenly decide that Phil Collins is increasing in credibility, please consult a pharmacist.
