Produced by the Pip Williams of Moody Blues and Status Quo fame, this track is jam-packed with up-tempo drums and jangly guitars.
The second single from the Aberdeen-born singer-songwriter's debut album Interpret This invites comparisons to the sounds of Prefab Sprout, Orange Juice and Teenage Fanclub.
There are nods to the Pogues and Neil Young, without coming close to the quality of any of them. The recording features musicians who have previously worked with everyone from Kylie Minogue and the Pet Shop Boys through to Eddie Reader and the Pretenders, which does at least give it an undeniably polished quality.
It's a pleasant enough slice of easy-on-the-ears folkie pop, but the genre has simply moved on, leaving this as the sort of song that your dad has a bit of a chair-dance to rather than an actual floor filler. If you like paisley cardigans, warm scrumpy and think a long-weekend on a narrow-boat playing Scrabble is fun then you’ll think this is Heaven.
