Finally. After two years of sheer toil, Five O'Clock Heroes are on the brink of releasing their debut LP, Bend To The Breaks. To say it's been a never-ending and tantalising wait would be like saying that Tony Blair's days in Downing Street are numbered, but we can now breathe easy - they're back after an extended absence, and sound as good as ever.
Time On My Hands is the song they've chosen to announce their return - a re-release of a rare 7" they put out back in 2004, it's, like almost all their material to date, an upbeat pop-rock number with an urgent, energetic and punchy verse that leads into an even punchier chorus.
As far as originality or song structure goes, this is anything but revolutionary, but when delivered with such a vivid enthusiasm, as seen here, it comes across as a bustling, confident and commanding three minutes that outstays the big boys at the after party, drinking them under the table in the process. And put alongside their other releases - Head Games, Run To Her and White Girls - we have the beginnings of a great singles band. As ever, you heard it here first.
