This New York based quartet are bound to be subjected to comparisons with The Strokes, and indeed they've supported them in the past, but despite this the Five O'Clock Heroes have a sound, that while not quite their own, is distinctive enough to set them apart.
There's more than a touch of Elvis Costello to Anthony Ellis' vocal approach; both he and drummer Michael Williams hail from the UK, giving a solid British edge to their particular take on the NYC sound. The song itself, the first to be taken from their forthcoming album, is moderately catchy though it lacks the confident swagger that characterises the output of their New York scene contemporaries.
Time On My Hands is not a debut that shouts its way into your world - trouble is, isn't that exactly what a first single should do? This isn't a bad introductory track but it delivers a limp handshake when you were anticipating a high five.
