F.O. Machete - What's The Signal?

Originally, the band were named Fuck Off Machete, but as they were only recently signed to an Australian label (Jam Recordings), they abbreviated their name to appear more politically correct. So F.O. Machete sound controversially exciting before you even play their new single, which is their first release since 2005's EP If Gold Was Silver And Silver Was Gold.

As it goes the Glasgow-based band are an odd trio. What's The Signal? is a weird song with energetic sounds - a cacophony of drums, raw guitar licks and punk-ish vocals. It is filled with confidence, energy and strength, yet it may just be to 'different' for the mainstream music buying masses (although they do not appear to be the type of band to care that much). They have a distinctive and vibrating style: B-sides Big Day Out and a cover of Olivia Newton John's Physical (surely one of the strangest covers ever) are equally odd and memorable for being, well, different.

F.O. Machete are not a band likely to be copied, but rather a band that will perhaps pioneer a style. Going off this single, they are a trio with a particular sound for a particular audience.
