With a new album on the way, D'Ya Feel Lucky introduces us to the latest band to bubble up from Bristol way. A tinkling guitar riff opens the track inconspicuously, barely pricking the consciousness, and then vocalist Andy Ward cuts in with his already unmistakable vocals. They find themselves somewhere between the whistling of a kettle and the slow but sure scraping of sandpaper on raw flesh. Something of an acquired taste then. "D'Ya Feel Lucky" he fumes (not so much with any real emotion, but more in the style of the aformentioned boiling kettle) as the song reaches the chorus and opens up into a reasonable stab at punk dynamics.

Of course the answer has to be 'not especially'. Although there is not anything to especially dislike about The Fondas, neither is there anything to make them stand head and shoulders above any other band currently thrashing guitars in a non-committal fashion while banging out forgettable choruses.

So if this sounds like the kind of thing that interests you, be sure to remember that the band is calling their style of personality free music 'slum rock'. Somehow the thought of this band crawling about in their own filth, living in cardboard boxes and adorning themselves with jewellery made from sardine scales seems appropriate when they release singles like this.
