The swirling bass and woozy synths that open We Had Pleasure sound so
much like Joy Division that it comes as something of a shock when the
vocals kick in and the voice is not that of Ian Curtis. Instead, it is the
haunting voice of Matt Popieluch, who sounds like a bizarre amalgamation of
old Suede frontman Brett Anderson and
Grant Lee Phillips.
We Had Pleasure marks the chorus parcel 'Express Delivery' as jangly
guitars, screaming synths and drums that jump around like a child after a
packet of jelly tots turn We Had Pleasure into a pulsating slab of euphoria.
Foreign Born sound like they have been making music for as long as Texas have not been, but this bunch of
plucky San Franciscans are new at this game and are only now busying
themselves with recording their debut album. If this delectable sneaky peek
is anything to go by then it will be something quite special indeed.
