Chris Collingwood and Adam Schlesinger have always been ones for a good lyric, and Mexican Wine doesn't disappoint, with its cheery verses on death (no really!) and a chorus that reeks of a resigned commitment.
Some imaginative harmonies and a nice melodic turn add to the song's appeal, and the twist in the chorus, "I tried to change but I changed my mind," works a treat. The guitar texture, as always with this band, brings out a series of counter melodies and backing vocals are also pointed nicely, rewarding the repeated plays the song clearly deserves.
Their album Welcome Interstate Managers has been out for a while now - if you haven't yet had a chance, do check it out.
