The name Franz Ferdinand may conjure up images of assassinated Archdukes (or even one of Chelsea's latest expensive signings) but this four-piece from Glasgow are actually one of the hottest tipped bands of 2004.
They've also been the latest group to be dubbed "best new band in Britain", but this time the hype can be justified. Take Me Out is a monstrous slab of rock with funk and even pop thrown into the mix. With a chorus that's harder to shake off than a nasty bout of 'flu and a massive guitar riff, this is going to be hard to escape over the coming months.
Of course, bands such as The Rapture and Hot Hot Heat have been doing this kind of thing for ages, but it's good to hear a new British band that aren't a pale imitation of Coldplay. The forthcoming album should be an intriguing listen.
