"Want you know you make me happy, want you to know you make me sad," goes the inventive refrain to this single. That sums this track fairly succinctly because it is quite capable of doing both: on the one hand the gentle picking and melancholy delivery of the vocal line certainly pulls on the old heartstrings. Once things start to warm up, the beats are introduced and the whole thing rushes towards a kind of Gospel/Breakbeat moneyshot, a gentle smile starts to spread across your face.

This is mainly because the song calls to mind such things as Moby's Why does My Heart Feel So Bad or Lemon Jelly's The Stanton Lick, both of which far outstrip this tune for originality and warmth. Then the smile quickly disappears because you realise Want You To Know is a missed opportunity.

Far better is the dirty filth of disco, which can be found on the other track included here, Pound For Pound. A grimy bass line propels this track towards a thoroughly pleasing chorus that sounds like Le Tigre getting their rocks off in a roller disco. "Is that all you got?" it screams in the chorus, almost mocking the limp lifelessness of Want You To Know. This is the kind of thing that makes us happy.
