By all accounts Love On My Mind was a large-scale club hit for the
Freemasons, though in narrowly missing out on the top chart slot, it denied
the composers a life time's supply of beer at their local - the Freemasons'
Arms, funnily enough. Well, if they've struck another bet with the landlord
in the meantime he'll be having a few sleepless nights once again, as the
boys have gone more up tempo for the follow-up, avoiding 'similar record
syndrome' in the process.
Watchin' has well-constructed string parts, a bouncy piano line,
suitably euphoric vocal wails in the background, a hook you could hang your
coat on and some cracking lyrics dispensed by now regular singer Amanda
Wilson. These are lifted directly from an early song of R'n'B vocalist
Deborah Cox and revamped for discerning house music lovers. Remixes
from Walken and Motivo funk it up and add more power respectively.
With a beat that draws a strong parallel with the current
Defected/Positiva house music fayre of the moment, Shapeshifters
fans will also be well catered for.
