Funeral For A Friend - Escape Artists Never Die (Infectious)

UK release date: 2 February 2004

Funeral For A Friend - Escape Artists Never Die
These young Welsh rockers can do no wrong at the moment, and even if this is the third single (or fourth since one was a double A-side) to be lifted from the most excellent debut album, Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation, there are enough quality B-sides to put paid to any question of milking a cow dry.

Besides, Escape Artists Never Die itself is very hard to argue with, featuring bruising but decidedly intricate metallic guitar riffs; Matt Davies' melodic vocals overlaid with throaty screams at pertinent moments; a trademark huge chorus; and a genius break into melodic rock territory towards the end with Davies imploring, "Please someone help me, I'm dying here in front of you." Said finale is sweeping, majestic and made for arenas around the globe...

And there's no let up in quality with the extra tracks, 10 Scene Points To The Winner and the downloadable You Want Romance? The former, in particular, is a bit of a shock, boasting old skool, dual heavy metal guitars, some pummelling bass drumming and lacerated screams. It's possibly the most hardcore thing they've ever done and very heavy indeed. We like. A lot.
