Dogmatic hardcore kids may love to hate Funeral For A Friend but there are 100,000+ people who bought Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation and have been drooling over the prospect of new album Hours.
As one of said salivators, I must confess I'm a tad disappointed by lead-off single Streetcar. It starts off brightly enough with a large, metallic guitar riff and drums that together sound as if they're gearing themselves up to gallop around a racecourse. However, it quickly settles into a melodic, dare I say it, emo canter but without the level of soaring escapism and anthemy that Casually Dressed's singles possessed, while the guitars are curiously compressed given that Terry Date (Soundgarden, Pantera, Deftones) is producing.
All in all, Funeral For A Friend's new single is not bad, but it is a little low on excitement. A Streetcar not named Desire you might say.
