Cult Glasgow club The Buff has been regularly attracting punters with its soul, jazz and funk music policy. Regular visitors to its dancefloor include Franz Ferdinand and Scissor Sisters (cue lots of corny jokes about them being "in The Buff" etc...). This single is the debut of their new record label, featuring Glaswegian five piece The Fusion Experience.
It's a lively slice of afro-latin-jazz-funk-fusion with some talented keyboard work from reportedly one of the coolest bands in Glasgow. Taking its cue from psycadelic voodoo, James Bond soundtracks and upbeat Brazilian tempo, it's a multi-textured, if slightly forgettable, listen.
There's something here to please acid-jazzers and those looking for something a bit different from the normal new releases. The Fusion Experience are trying to merge as many funky and cool styles together and it's refreshingly different. It lacks a knockout punch, however, and it's difficult to see whether it will find an audience outside the club scene currently nurturing it.
