I've still not quite recovered from the moment Mclusky split, but you have to face facts and carry on with life. For a while Jon Chapple's band Shooting at Unarmed Men filled the void, but they could be a little bit hit and miss. Now though Andy Falkous is back with Future of The Left and things are starting to look bright again.
Adeadenemyalwayssmellsgood is their second single (the first being Fingers Become Thumbs) and it kicks like a goddamn mule. As with many of Mclusky's songs the basis is one hell of a riff. It's totally primal, stripped to the bone and read to fight, fuck and feed although possibly not in that order. Rolling drums keep the whole thing thundering along as it lurches through change after change, each one forcing the song to develop a sense of reckless abandon. By the end you just want to gnaw your knuckles and giggle like a schoolgirl at the sheer liberation that booms out of your speakers.
Do yourself a favour get this single, remind yourself that music can actually make you feel something, and then marvel at the fact that for some reason Falco decided to fit the word paradiddle in there (apparently there are no bold statements in his paradiddle though so don't look for any).
