Who shot JR? Is the lead singer of Keane really 12 years old, as he looks? If Danny McNamara and Kelly Jones did a duet would the world just end? These are the questions that bother us. These are the questions that keep us tossing and turning in the lonely hours of the early morning. And to those we can now add another: who calmed The Futureheads down?

Because on Skip To The End our favourite Mackem disregarders of musical convention have done something which hurtles along on a fairly even keel. There are a few nah-nah-nah-nah-nah's here, a little hint of a guitar riff which could cut loose at any minute and damage the furniture there, but basically something three minutes in length, that doesn't closely resemble a musical epileptic fit.

It's the sound of a band harmonising in complete sentences, rather than single. Barked! INSTRUCTIONS! It's probably the poppiest the 'Heads have got, with nary a hound of love in sight, and all the better for it.
