First impressions were that the Futureheads could be in for a tough time on their third album return. Having engaged the ejector seat to leave 679 the band are now in control of their own destiny, and The Beginning Of The Twist is the first fruits of a Spanish sojourn with producer Youth, recruited to record the album.
Give them a chance, as this song takes a few listens to make its mark. Initially coming over as shouty and incoherent, the more you hear it the more it gains stature in your brain, and by the time the tenth listen comes along - which it will - you'll be feeling the sense of occasion the chorus brings.
Whereas second album News And Tributes represented the Futureheads in a more thoughtful vein, The Beginning Of The Twist finds them breaking out into a full-on, punky extravaganza. Hold on and enjoy the ride!
