Say what you will about Pop Idol and Popstars, at least that reality show has produced proper pop stars in the shape of Will Young and Girls Aloud. Its close relation The X Factor, by contrast, has created such showbiz luminaries as Steve Brookstein (who?), Chico (please kill me now), and a low-rent version of the Nolan Sisters.
G4 have been the most successful of the X Factor contestants so far, which says more about the show itself than it does about the band. Rather laughably described as opera, this is a cover version of the Bee Gees' song, featuring Robin Gibb on guest vocals. It's pleasant enough, but so bland it's enough to drive you to tears.
Being the middle of December, the boys don't just have one Christmas single here, they even throw in a rendition of Johnny Mathis' When A Child Is Born, which may please your grandmother but nobody else. It's almost enough to make you want to hear Chico's debut single. I said almost...
