Ah, remember those days when outrage could be created by Public Enemy sampling a drum snare sound from an old James Brown song. These days, a sample is more likely to mean another song's entire backing track being swiped.

Gabrielle has 'borrowed' Paul Weller's Wild Wood as the basis for her new single, breathing huskily over that familiar strummed guitar and adding some gospel-like backing vocals. It's a relaxed ballad, which will probably go straight on those Mothers Day compilation CDs that Gabrielle always seems so prominent on.

The problem is that it's just very, very dull. It's all been done before, and the swiping of Weller's track leaves it open to charges of a lack of originality (even if Weller himself guests on the track). It'll be a minor chart hit, disappear pretty quickly and absolutely nobody will remember it exists this time next year. Which makes it all a bit pointless, to be honest.
