It seems ages since Shirley Manson and company were last with us - four years in fact since Beautiful Garbage was released, and with the deafening silence that has held court since, you'd be forgiven for thinking they'd quietly split up.

One listen to Why Don't You Love Me will quickly dispel that notion however. A fericious guitar riff opens proceedings before the song belts through with a frantic momentum. It's possibly the heaviest single they've ever recorded and Manson is as charismatic as ever, going from coquettish on the verses to downright pyschotic on the chorus of "why do you love me, it's driving me crazy".

With the back up tracks on the CD single of a similar quality, it all bodes well for the forthcoming Bleed Like Me album - a welcome comeback from a band who have been very much missed for the last few years.
