Sam Duckworth's back with another slice of lyrical supremacy from Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager, and it's a 'new version' no less.
Is this just a weak and feeble ploy to make the gullible indie kids of the world buy a track they already own, you ask? And so I, as your Lady Journo Defender of the Faith must investigate on your behalf. War Of The Worlds (new version) is acoustic, melodic, cheerily happy with a dark undercurrent of lyrics that are actually about breaking up in a 'fuck off then' kind of way. 'Old version' on the other hand is - pretty much exactly the same, actually. 'New version' is imperceptibly different, mate.
Don't get me wrong. This does not make it a bad song. It is in fact a great song, with a great tune, very clever lyrics and Get Cape's old ahead-of-his-time voice and world weariness dripping all over it. It's just that if the you've got the album already and the title fools you into thinking you need this as well, it's pulling a fast one. Don't say I didn't warn you.
