The Ghost Frequency - Nightmare

buy music
Nightmare is serviceable staccato punk from London-based Cramps wannabees The Ghost Frequency. It owes more of a debt to Adam And The Antz than they'd probably want to admit and nicks the same bits from Wire as everyone else.

It has its charms, but not as many as The Horrors, and from the look of them they haven't quite decided whether they want to keep one foot in the emo grave or not. The result is angular hair and plaid shirts and perhaps a bit too much emphasis on style over substance.

Nightmare does have its catchier moments, and at times sounds as if it will improve with repeat listenings but in fact it does the opposite. There's a horrible undercurrent of this being music I'm too old to appreciate, and in the interests of making absolutely, absolutely sure that's not my fault, I'm going to have to blame them for it.

It's interesting in places but ultimately unfulfilling.
