I'll Stand By You is a cover of the Pretenders 'classic' which is being released, not only to promote Girls Aloud, but this year's Children In Need campaign. So, whilst this is a song for charity, and it's a very worthy cause to support, it does need to be pointed out that perhaps the children most in need, are those that part with their pocket money for this drivel.

Chrissie Hynde's voice is one of the most recognisable and passionate voices in music, and Girls Aloud simply are not up to her standard. This is a sub-karaoke version, limp, tired, and uninspired. If we're lucky, this is the first sign that their time is rapidly coming to an end. If you want to support Children In Need, give directly to the charity, but please, don't encourage Girls Aloud, they might end up covering Drive for Live Aid II. Doesn't that thought give you the chills?
